I was looking for a new PBX, and someone said I should get an IBX system. What IS that? What are the advantages or disadvantages?
Thanks

More than likely, they are referring to a PBX that uses both digital TDM (regular wired connections to the telephones) and VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol). Both are very useful these days; traditional phones and wiring are less expensive than IP equipment, yet the VoIP capability lets you connect to remote offices or users via the Internet to save money on inter-office calling and remote teleworker support.
Most newer systems available from reputable manufacturers have this dual capability, so you won't likely have to spend a lot of extra $$$ for it. You can just purchase IP cards, phones, etc. later when your company has a need for it.
Since VoIP technology is exploding these days, it would not make much sense to purchase a system that does not have the ability to at least be upgradable to IP technology. Some say that there will come a time when IP is the standard type of system across the board.
