I'm looking for a source for Merlin compatible wallplates, jacks, connectors, etc. I'm in the middle of an office move and need to replace the wallplates/jacks in the new office. The system is a Merlin 410. The connectors appear to be standard RJ-45; as used for 10BaseT Ethernet. Can anyone confirm this?
Thanks,
Andrew

The Merlin uses the same format as the old 7400 series phones. They use a 856B wiring scheme and utilizes pairs 2 and 3. Green and orange.

Merlin 410 and up to legend with atl packs use standard 568a wiring. They use blue, orange and green for the set and brown is the power lead.

you can use either a 568A or 568B wiring scheme as long as you keep consistant, they will function the same when used as patch cords. The brown pair is actually used for OHVA on the merlin systems. It is not used on a Merlin II or Legend ATL pack.

the brown pair is used on all legend atl packs, it supplies power to the brown pair.

I have to move a Merlin 820 system. So 568b wiring will work and the phones only use pairs 2 and 3 correct? I would like to use only 2 pairs of a cat5 for a Merlin phone and the remaining 2 pairs for other voice needs such as a fax machine.
Thanks in advance.
Arnie

ARNIE /read notes above all 4 pair are accounted for in merlin 820 /use cat3 for the other items and run another cable /cat3 will work fine for the merlin please reread kens and z-mans advice above if you stray from their advice/pack breakfast /lunch and supper and a helper to scratch your hesd

As stated above. All four pair are needed. You will lose your voice over intercom if you only wire with 3pr. On an Older merlin 1030 you can get away with it but again you would lose intercom voice. Intercom ring would still work.

Avaya always wires 568B but who cares as long as both sides of the wire are the same. If you wire 568B you can test your pairs by lifting the handset and blowing into it. If you hear yourself the blue pair is good. Place the T/P switch to T and if the red lights light the orange pair is good. If the Green lights light the green pair is good. If you can place an intercom call the brown pair is good.
