I have not seen this but it certainly would be possible. I have no idea what phone equipment they use (or even if it's an issue). I suspect that Motorola makes a "radio unit" that interfaces with a T/R station port. Dial that extension and you are talking to the walkie-talkies.

This sounds interesting enough that I will look into it. I can think of some customers of my own who would be interested. I have a local Motorola dealer who I will ask about this tomorrow and get back to you here.

Ok, I talked to the Motorola dealer and Motorola does have what you are looking for. You can do straight VOX controlled paging & talkback through your radios or, depending on your radio's capabilities, even selectively communicate with individual radios. You are talking about $1000-1200 installed.

Contact a Motorola dealer where you are and see what they have to say.

An easier, cheaper way to do it is just connect a page output to the mic of the radio and the page relay to the talk button.

Only problem with that is that the person on the radio wouldn't be able talk back to the person on the phone.

I didn't go into details with the Motorola guy but it sounds like they use a regular 4 watt base station radio that will work with your portable radios. Then they have a VOX controller/interface to connect it to an analog station port. This will allow two way conversations between the portables and the phone system.

I believe much of the cost is for the radio and installation, not necessarily for the interface itself. You do want to keep the antenna away from the KSU.
