I am running a Merlin Legend CKE3 R7 with a 408 GS/LS ID MLX card. I have just recieved a refurbished MLX 10DP. All of the functions of the phone work: including the display, speakerphone all buttons and softkeys -- the phone can make and recieve calls via speakerphone, but, the only (quite significant) problem is that the handset doesn't work -- nor does the switchhook (when I pick up the handset the lights on the phone don't respond (usually a green LED comes on next to the red one). The system seems to be working fine, I tried reseating all of the cards (with the system powered down ... of course) but that didn't help either. I just wanted to confirm that this was a problem with the phone, not the system.

I just tested that actual handset with another phone and it works fine, I guess the problem must be with the switchook.

I sure sounds like it's the base that has the problem, I would get hold of the place you got it and ask for a replacement.

Ok, thank you very much for the quick reply. I got the phone pretty cheap so replacing it shouldn't be a problem.

We repair those phones if you want to go that route. While the hookswitch does not frequently fail on the "DP" sets, it does happen. If the phone will work in speakerphone mode, but will not pick up with the handset, that is almost definitely the trouble.

I was looking over the phone and I noticed something interesting. The housing on the side where the handset is not completely snapped together, there's like a wierd bulge when you look at the phone from the side. I guess the refurbisher didn't do a very good job. I have already ordered a replacement for this phone. But in general, how much does repair for a phone like this cost?

We repair them for end-users at $45 a pop, installers pay $36.
