It's not even necessarily the waveform, the ring voltage is lower than what is normal for a POTS line. I've had this cause trouble with Viking products, particularly their elevator and door phones. Funny thing is Viking made the Partner doorphone for Avaya (now they are made by Bogen) and even it wouldn't pick up when you called it.
