I have a dead partner mail v4.0. Doesn't power on at all. I popped it open quick and checked simple stuff like fuses, and nothing struck me. IYO, is it worth having someone look at it?

Sure, could be just a power supply problem. Send it out.

Most places its the same cost to repair a unit what ever the problem is. so what do you have to lose send it.

you might just want to try replacing the power supply yourself
Ive done it befors sb less than 50.00
