I am having issues getting my 355AF adapter to work with my merlin. I have tried different computers, different serial ports. The adapter might be the issue, but i cabt be sure i dont know how to test that. It was made in 1999 but i just bought it new. Let me know any settings to try.

Your connection to the Merlin should be a 8-pin D8W cable to the 355AF and then a direct connection to the pc. If the maint port is functioning and all cables are correct, then the 355AF may be bad.

The 8-pin D8W line cord is the same cable Avaya has been using for years for its merlin and definity telephones. Yes, you can use a standard cat5 cable. I'll look for the pinout for the 355af. I'll let you know.

a simple search of the avaya forum would have brought you multiple choices to find the pinouts, here is one: https://www.sundance-communications.com/forum/Forum5/HTML/000467.html

Here is the link on the Avaya site for the 355AF https://support.avaya.com/edoc/docs/legend/legsmdr.pdf

The left side of the picture in the link is the 8-pin cable, the right is the DB25 end.
