Does anyone know the truth about program memory backup or lack of same on Partner 206 r. 2? I can't imagine there is none, but am getting conflicting information from my refurbisher. They say that a 206 standing alone has backup, but that two married together ( in a two slot carrier) do not. Replaced 206 with refurb to cure static and power off memory loss. I asked them to be sure to test for memory retention. When installed, memory still disappears on power down/up.

Truth be known there is a memory backup battery in the 206. Obviously this has gone south and is why the programming goes away each time you remove power. This has nothing to do with whether or not there is an expansion 206 or 206E.
Sounds like you need another supplier of 206's, one who actually refurbishes them rather than just dusting them off and lying to you.

I just opened a 206 r2 and no battery inside.
Unless it was done back then with a capacitor.
I dont think there were 2 versions of an r2, they worked as a stand alone or 2 or 5 slot carrier.
Why dont you get a partner plus processor /5 slot and use the 206 as a station/co card
The processor [with a new battery] will give you the memory back up and moh with an rca plug instead of the coupler on a station.
You will also get expansion to 8 x24 and if u use a 3.1 processor or above voicemail capability ,in carrier or out.

Thanks guys. Hal, I'm thinking as you about the refurbisher. They want me to deinstall the cards and program them one at a time and then power them down to test their contention that they will hold progrmming asd a stand alone card!
Since the sages disagree, is there any way to get a definitive answer to this question? I don't really want to deinstall and reinstall this system again.
Ken, this company is struggling some and is unlikely to invest in any upgrades. I suppose I could just recommend battery backup for them and leave it at that.

I have seen partner cabinets on ebay @ $10--15 dollars and processors @ $50 . No big investment here

Very likely, I've not looked inside one. Doesn't matter though it's still toast.

Just buy a battery back-up at Staples or Office Depot. That will keep the system up for a few hours anyway. ------------------ Avaya Telephone Repair Toshiba Telephone Repair

Seems there is always a logical answer: I talked to the repair technician at my refurber and through broken English he informed me that of the two modules they sent me (including an advance replacement for an OOB failure)only one had a new battery installed.
Upon deinstallation and testing, it turns out that the module they sent me marked with extension 16 and lines 3 and 4, but not the one they sent me marked with extension 10 through 15 and lines 1 and 2, was the one with the new battery. Battery has to be in the module in the first position in a two slot carier. Swapped the two, tested OK, redesied the modules and problem solved.
KenB, thanks for the suggestion for an upgrade. I suggested it to one of the owners and he is interested. I think I'll let them catch on my invoices before I do this, however.
Any suggestions as to what I should suggest the refurbers provide as compensation for two unnecessary service calls and about an hour of my time?
Thanks again for your input y'all. This is a neat way for phone dawgs to share info. and even get to know one another.

Yup, real good refurber you got there! Sends you two 206's and tells you to use one as the processor because they were too cheap to replace the battery in the other. Don't suppose they gave you the one without the battery any cheaper.
You want compensation? Wait a few weeks until one or both crap out.
Now you know why I never sell refurb!
