In working on a system I'm trying to put one line that appears on solely one extension onto the rest of the extensions. I use Station 10, go into programming, and do the usual for assigning lines (in this case adding it to Station 10). I end up with the LED lit on the position of the line (line #9 in this case), try to give it full access in the restriction mode (I can't recall at this moment whether I've ever seen it go off of even flash, the indicator for answer only), but the line never appears on the Station 10, not even as answer only when I call the number from my cell. It acts as if the line is programmed as a private line solely to the one station it's assigned to. I'm very familiar with that feature with Meridian/Norstar systems, but nothing in the 2448 Admin Manual discusses this as an option. They do need to dial "9" for outside access, so it is likely a Centrex line, but I'm also not familiar with Centrex having that as a capability.

Am I missing something here, or could the Spirit have defective ports?

TIA

Certainly could be a defective port. Plug you toner into it, put it on continutity, and go off hook on the line at the extension, see it the toner's LED lights up.

Try Unassigning ALL the lines from Ext. 10, and then re-assigning them, remembering that the system puts them on the line buttons in the order that you assign them to the phone. See page 6 of the manual for a discussion of line button assignments. Page 20 tells how to actually do the assignments.

Spirits are pretty old and funky (to say the least!)

If Tommys suggestion doesnt work try a copy of the extension were the the line now appears to
another extension

Are the co lines on x10 in order left to right
1-3,4-6, 7-8 on the first 3 rows just curious..

on entering programming the icm button times out in 5 seconds and are you getting a confirmation
tone after entering *xxxxx when entering programming.

Yeah, the CO lines are on buttons from left to right, bottom to top. Although line 9 is the private line in question, it appears on button 6 of the one extension that has it. This, of course, due to how Spirit assigns buttons. We can assume that lines 6-8 are not on this set, and that 9 was the next one to get a button. I confirmed this by looking at the line assigns on that extension via admin extension 10. Yes, the LEDs are lit for lines 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 9. They appear as 1-6. Then again, I had no need to see if line 5, for instance, is truly 5, or if it's a different line programmed there. That's not really important.

When I'm back on site, I'll try the copy suggestion, I also want to try programming onto an unused extension (I recall that 31 was available) and see what happens. If the Spirit is touchy anyway, an old Spirit must be more so. The one thing I'd be very concerned about trying is powering down the system and rebooting; I'd be afraid it would never come back up! This site is ready for a phone system upgrade!

Thanks for the suggestions so far....
