Is it the same receptionist /same phone /
Have you tried it from another phone ?

On transfer are we doing /transfer key /dial ext /hang up
Or
put call on hold /announce call/ and teacher picks up off hold / are there s/l phones in class room ? that would make it xfer hang up

My next thought and maybe Hal or tommy have the answer and it is:
Does the call have to be in progress ,timing
wise and coming of the mail b4 it can be xferred
and the mail and or processor get to many instructions to fast and it semi locks

No, 20 seconds into the call would put it in the domain of the switch with the messaging system out of the picture.

I too would like to know (and have you verified)if this happens only with one or certain classroom phones and are they single line phones. It's a long shot but if a problem with the phone or wiring caused the extension to disconnect the call would be dropped. This would not be the case with a system phone where it would be put on hold should the phone be disconnected.

Are there 206 or 308 expansion modules in the system besides the ACS and Mail VS? Is the problem confined to the extensions on one module- either the ACS processor or one of the expansion cards?

I think at this point the only way you are going to get to the bottom of this is to swap modules out with known good ones and see if it makes any difference. You can start by pulling the messaging, call in as you have done, have them transfer you and see if the problem is still there.

Since you think this problem started when you added the messaging that should confirm whether it's causing the problem. I can't see how it could but stranger things have happened.

Dont know if I told you but Source sent a replacement Mail VS when this problem first started and I installed it. So probably not the VM. They have had x-fer trbl with the following ext's, 20-22-24-25-26-28-29. From left to right in a 5 slot carrier the circuit packs are:
308EC Mod R3.0, 206E Mod R4.1, 308 Proc R1.0, 206E Mod R4.1, Partner Mail VS R5.0. So far all the xfer problems have happened to analog phones. But they only have about 10 digital phones in the system.
Thanks again for all your help on this...

Just so you use correct terminology all Partner phones are analog, lets not get confused by the analog/digital misconception.

I understand you to say then that you are using single line phones in the classrooms. Single line phones meaning of the type you would normally use at home or hopefully something better like the "old style" 2554 wall phone. Seems you are also saying that the problems affects these phones only so that's where I would focus my attention. What condition are they in? If a call is made from them without being transferred is there ever a problem.

Just thinking about this my hunch is that these being in classrooms they might be subject to abuse. If they are consumer dial-in-handset types something as simple as a bad cord could cause this problem. I also suspect that calls are only answered when transferred at these locations so the answer to my last question might not be known.

Focus there first then if you see no problem swap some of the affected extensions around to other ports and modules on the system and see if anything changes.
