We will be removing a 2 carrier G3 switch (each carrier in it's own cabinet, stacked) from service and packing it for shipment to another site. The plan is to bolt each cabinet to a pallet, and enclose in a plywood type container.
The debate is whether to leave the circuit cards in the carriers and ship as is or remove and pack in circuit board shipping boxes. Where can get we get the circuit card container boxes?
Any reason not to leave the circuit boards in the carriers?
Any suggetions would be appreciated.
Thank you
Rich
Equipment will shipped along with the rest of the office equipment and furniture.

I myself would not ship the cards in the carrier.
As far as container boxes for those cards I'm not sure.
But you could get boxes that fit closely then get some bubble wrap to take up the slack.

Why not use a commercial mover . they will pick it up ,blanket it and deliver it on other end right to phone room
There are companies that specialize in this.
It has to be easier then boxes ,bubble and a lot of praying

I second Kenb's suggestion. We have had to do this and used a mover that specializes in transporting electronic equipment. They have air-ride trucks and lift gates and know what they are doing.

The safest place for the cards is in the carrier. That is the most secure container you can use.

I did a move on a 2 carrier SCC a few years ago. Loaded both cabinets in my Van with the cards inplace. Brought it to the new sight and installed. Either way, cards in or out should be fine.

If you trust the packer and carrier by all means leave them in. We have recieved many systems with cards in with no problems, However we have also recieved many bent twisted and mangled systems with cards installed. It does'nt seem to matter who the carrier is they all toss it when we are not looking. My view is why risk the extra damage. John

Thanks for the input everyone. I think I'd prefer to pack the switch myself. Bolted to a solid platform or pallet, enclosed with a surounding ply container, and some thick packing insulation between the switch and container walls. My first concern was cards in or out. I've shipped both ways. Thanks again for the opinions and recomendations.
Side note: Once I was contracted to disconnect and reinstall a System 75 at a new location. Client said, "our movers will transport the switch."
On the way out of the from location that evening, I heard this crashing behind me. Turned around to see the switch on a dolley, on it's side, with two movers rolling it down the entry way steps. When they say "don't worry".......... I WORRY!
Thanks again
