Today we installed an IP Office 406 with (2) 4 port analog modules. These cards connect to a Carrier Access Adit channel bank provided by TDS Metrocom. The IP Office can make outbound calls but inbound calls go unrecognized by the IP Office. If we connect a phone to the lines they seem to be fine both inbound and outbound. We had this same problem with an ESI X Class and ESI IP 200e a few months ago. In both cases TDS replaced the analog trunks with a digital trunk (T1) and we took the trunk digitally. Does anyone know what is causing this? We know the IP Office is setup properly and that the issue is something between the analog trunks and the PBX.

Low ring voltage perhaps?

Agree with Hal. Meter the ring voltage. We've had them as low as 45V ringing. Doesn't play well with equipment expecting 90V. Some single line phones will ring on moderately low voltage but CO ports are expecting what they were engineered for.

TDS Metrocom found the problem. They had the Carrier Access Adit channel bank configured for a non-standard wave form on the ring voltage (?). They say they added a jumper on J5 and J6 on the Adit power supply and inbound ringing on the IP Office is fine now. I have to give credit to the Lansing, MI TDS Metrocom technical team. They found the answer in 7 days. After 90 days the technical (this may be a misnomer) team from TDS in Livonia, MI gave up and installed digital trunks! The crazy part is that TDS essentially has cable jockies changing firmware and settings on the Adit equipment. These guys often are quality people with RBOC experience but sending them out to reprogram the firmware and test settings on the Carrier Access equipment is beyond most of their skills sets.
