I have a customer that was ours in the Comdial world and unbeknownst to us bought an IP Office and now they wold like us to quote (actually we all but get the work) to install the hardware and program their system for a T1. I am very familar with the Avaya product line other than the IP Office. Is this difficult product to program or is it similar to thei other products?

It's from another universe. The wires and pliers portion can be handled by any phone guy. The programming and training needs to be handled by someone trained on it, or you need to spend a lot of time woodshedding on it before the install.
Can you partner up with someone experienced on it to do the administraion and training, and train you in the process??

If you have access to IP Office Manager (not Phone Manager) you can setup the T1 module fairly easily. The on-line help on the IP Office Manager application is very good. If the T1 is off-line now you should be able to install the module (internally) and then work on configuring the software side while the switch is running. Make sure you know the telco settings for the T1 before starting or else it's going to be a lot of guesswork.

ipanema- Is the IP office manager a proprietary program like WniSPM or is it web based? Have you done a T1 into an IP Office yet?

IP Office Manager is available for download from Avaya's web site. It is a purpose built Windows application for managing the IP Office. We've done a lot of T1s into the IP Office. The physical board install will take as long as the software setup (probably 1 1/2 hours total).

Yes, but if you need lightening protection you might consider an external model from Adtran.
