I have a customer that I service the wiring for and they just had a Avaya 400 installed with digital sets and 8 POT lines in. When they make a call it has about 6-8 second delay before system dials, is this normal?

It depends on how the dialing shortcode was built and how the inter-digit timer is set. The default shortcodes use the variable "N", so the system waits for a timer to expire before it determines that you're not going to dial any additional digits. I usually modify to use a finite number of "X" digits (10 Xs for local or 1 + 10 Xs for toll), so that I can specify a number length. Speeds things up considerably. You DON'T want to make this change without some system knowlege as you're playing with fire! Mike

And, the time it waits to connect is also the same time that the incoming delay is. Atleast thats what our sales guy said.
