I'm trying to connect to my merlin messaging r2.0 thru the rs232 port, so I can change the IP address and program it over the network. The RS232 port is an RJ-45 jack. I have made a special cable to go from my serial port on my computer to RJ45, but I cannot seem to get any connection in hyperterminal. The Admin Manual states the settings are 38400, no parity, stop bit 1, no flow control. I'm not sure if it's these settings that are wrong or my cable is not wired right. If anybody can please tell me the correct pinout for the RJ45 jack, or if these settings are wrong I would really appreciate it! Thanks!

Assuming your cable is correct try 19200,8,N,1.

You should be using a 355A adaptor...

If you only want to connect to change the IP address, just fire up your modem, dial into the voice mail or auto attendant, and then dial **3. You will be transferred to the internal modem, wait for the screen to instruct you to press Enter to connect. Press enter, and proceed as if you were connected locally.

You connect to the Merlin messaging using an RJ-45 to 355A to your pc at 38400, 8, 1 and N just like the manual says. Good luck!!
