just to double check to see if i have this right, calls come in on line one. you go to pick up the line and you hear nothing. is this at all times or do you get calls every once in a while on line one? when you see the line ringing in does it go red or flash green before you pick it up. three things that come to mind is 1: your lines are crossed with an outside location. 2: someone in house is hooking up some form of modem (laptop?)in a phone port that is set to ring. 3: you may have some form of call forward on that line

It seems the modem sound is only for about 7 seconds then it goes normal.
The problem is on line 1, i switched line 1 and 2 and the problem moved with it.
It appears it's not the phone system but a problem on the line somewhere. Looking more and more like the alarm. My boss plans on calling them today.

Alarm system might have rj31 block at panel if so, unplug line cord from it and test line then. Some alarm systems will trigger if line is pulled, talk to alarm co. first.------John

go to the alarm panels and ANI the lines . I always lable the lines both at the alarm panel(usually I label the rj31x and also put a lable on the outside of the panel) and then make a note at the demark as to which lines are going to the alarms
on partner systems I like to make notes right on the side of the carrier as to the line numbers and what lines serve alarms , faxs etc.
when a line has a problem and you need to report it its nice to have the actull number right there .

The "squeal" was very common when I worked on MOH devices(that were remotely accesible..mainly the Premier Technologies RUF 2700). But only if the MOH device is hooked up to the line that is giving the problem...Certainly no one would have installed a RUF on a Line 1....Just another thought....

I've handed the issue off to my boss. He said he was going to call the Alarm company to check with them. I'll check back with him today to see if he called.
