Got an ACS 3.0 with a 308 card and 2 port carrier in a residence. Has power but not working. Date and time appear on the phones. The lines are good from BellSouth. However there is a hissing sound on any CO or Intercom button. No dialtone. I did all the usual stuff. Power off and on. Disengaged the cards from the carrier and then put back together. Unplugged all the phones (except 10) where they plug into the Processor Module. Same symptoms. Anything else to do?

Separate the ACS and 308. Power up the ACS and plug a phone directly into the extension ports. Press an intercom button. Hiss= bad ACS.

I thought about that (slapping myself on the head) after I left the residence. I'm going back over there and try that.
Thanks much

This system has been working for at least 5 years, the time I've been here (not sure how long before that).
I replaced the carrier 3 or 4 months ago.
I was a 5 port I changed it to a 2 port.

The 2 module carrier spaces modules close together, which can cause heat related failures.
The new 5 module carrier, even when fully loaded, spaces the module out further apart. I
I'm wondering if the processor failed because of heat.

Heat? Possible. Though I've seen key systems in far worse environments work. This on is in an air conditioned closet with plenty of circulation. Whatever caused it, it aint workin'. I plugged the power directly into the PM. Same problem.

Any significant difference between a Partner Plus and an ACS? User is not using voice mail. Real basic setup.
Will it wrok with the ACS 308 card?
Do I have to get an ACS PM? (Certainly not r7 from what I've read)

I don't think that a 308EC will work with a Partner Plus. The Partner Plus is older than the ACS. The ACS accommodates the small Partner Voice Messaging PC cards while the Partner Plus does not. The Partner ACS allows you to backup & restore configurations from a PC card while the Plus does not.

I wouldn't worry about the 2 slot carrier or the old 5 slot either as far as heat is concerned. Both get bad press but I have never seen a problem due to heat unless the space where the system is installed is hot or, in the case of a 5 slot somebody piles junk on top. I even found a 5 slot once that somebody laid horizontally on a shelf with the cover on. Both cases caused the power supplies in the processors to self destruct.

There is a BIG difference between the ACS and Partner Plus. No, it will not work with a 308, only 206s. Nice thing about the ACS is the Partner Voice Messaging PC card option. With the Partner Plus you have to use the VS or Partner Messaging.

Plenty of refurb ACSs out there. That's what you want to do.
