Is it possible to remote access a Partner ACS R7 and make program changes, like add DND button, with out having to restore system translations and causing the ACS to reboot? Using PC Administration Release 7.0 version 7.0.0.9 with ACS R7 91E.

Why not just walk the customer though it over the phone then have them do a back-up. That way the system would not reboot.

The client wants this third party company to provide 24x7 support. There iare 22 ACS R7 locations, so far the Third party has been unable to provide support over the phone and wants to install the Remote Access Cards in all the locations saying that they can remote in to change peoples phone request. My problem is that I think they will have to reboot the system everytime to make the program change effective, and the Third Party enginner tells me thats not how it works with ACS R7, I've only been working with Partners for about three years and I was sure that remote access requried a reboot. Thanks

Yes, you are correct. It would require a system restart with the older ACS's or the R.7.

And the stars will have to all be aligned correctly for you to be able to reliably administer 22 different locations - odds are that one or two of them will refuse to communicate properly. I often dial into customers' systems to get the translations and see how things are set up, and about 10% of the time, there are connection issues. If my connection is sucessful, I will upload the new translation, but dial in after hours to do the restore/restart.

Yes, you can remote access with the Partner R7 using Avaya "PC Administration" and it works very well. You can get it freely at the Avaya's web site. It will restart after you make changes and you will loosse your connection. When I do it, it's normally non office hours.

I did connect once, it did not take my password. and i've never got it to prompt me for a password after. after connecting to ext 76 it says something about connection to the system could not be established. you may not be able to communicate with the system. could it be the modem or something I missed in programming? thank you in advance. Please don't hijack an old thread. Start a new one if you have a new question.
Your problem is because you are using the win modem in your laptop. Use a US Robotics external connected to the serial port and you may fare better.
