Hello,

First sorry for my ignorance. I just bought a phone system off of e-bay for my company and installed it. It seems to work okay with 2 problems, I do not have the password for the mailbox 0 ( I guess I need this to change the greeting??) and the phones sometimes seem to call themselves..I can unplug the lines coming in and they will occasionally ring, you pick it up and it seems to be in a mailbox??

Did you get a warranty through the seller? We do not give out VM passwords here.

That's the problem with buying off e-bay............you don't know what your getting.

Not all ebay sellers are bad. Try contacting them they might have the password that has been programmed into it. Also you did not state which release system or which mail you had but you can click the link below for a manual that might help you.

You may have thought you saved yourself a lot of money by buying off ebay but I think you are going to find that isn't the case. These systems are not plug and play or meant for the end user to install and program. Your system may have serious problems or it may have programming issues. At any rate you are going to have to have the admin password reset for you to create your own menus. See the Avaya-Lucent Posting Information , the very first topic at the top of this forum for information as to how to get your admin password reset.

Since this is a used system both the processor and the messaging system should be defaulted and programmed anew from scratch to your requirements. This is the only way to eliminate any "bombs" that may lurking in the last users programming. Possible that a programming error is causing your phantom ringing, maybe not.

I would suggest that you contact a local Avaya dealer who, for an hour of time will take care of this for you.

Had a service guy come out today and he said the VM card is no good because you should be able to hit 0# and get in to the system, it should not say enter mailbox number followed by password.. It has been working fine execept we wanted to change the greeting. Is it normal for the cards to fail like this?
