TURNS OUT THAT I HAD FAILED TO PUT THE CARDS WITH THE HIGHEST RELEASE NUMBER TO THE LEFT. ONCE DONE IT WORKED PERFECTLY. LIVE AND LEARN.
Absolutely nothing to do with anything. Just removing and reseating the mods is probably what got you going. I wouldn't get too comfortable though, that's an OLD system, but then again it can't be too important if it took you from October till now to get this fixed.

As Hal said,
It's time to upgrade. The Proc batt is at the end of it's life.
Again, the battery on the mother board is 15 years old.
Which reminds me, I have to change the battery on my 15 year old Toshiba Laptop that runs and old Dos program. For all the old guys it was called Phonebizz by Tel in Tel.
