Could someone please advise. When I check the errors in my switch I find a reoccurring error: TDM-BUS. The port is PN01B. The error type is: 769. First Occur is 9/6/07 and Last Occur is today. Error Count is 255. Rate per hour is 4.
I do not understand this error. My business partner says it can cause some issues. Avaya says it's hard to detect. If I go forward, an Avaya tech. needs to take down the switch and locate it.
Could someone please advise what a TDM-BUS error is, what issues it can cause and if it needs my immediate attention.
Thank you so much! Rhonda

TDM buss is critical to the operation of your switch. This alarm is indicating that some of the time slots are corrupted. Most likely cause is a defective circuit pack or bent pins on the backplane. The repair procedure can be very intrusive and is something that you should only trust to a trained Avaya tech. Good Luck

Thanks for your input. I'll get an Avaya Tech on it ASAP. Rhonda

Has this just started Rhonda? Did you recently add a pack? Just wondering if you installed a pack in a slot with a bent pin.

The error started on 9/6/07. Avaya installed a new pack but not until 10/3. I started a trouble ticket on this with Avaya so I will let them utilize some of the maintenance money we pay monthly.
My biggest concern was if it needed my immediate attention. Apparently it does so I'm on that now. You'd think it would throw an alarm instead of an error.

It will log so many errors that it will put in an alarm. It sounds like you have full maintenance so yes, get your money's worth. This may end up just being a pack that is going bad. Hopefully they can find it without must disruption of service for you.

Looks like its probably failing the "Idle time slot test" #294. This test checks for noisy time slots and will take them out of service. May be caused by a bad station/trunk card or bent backplane pins. There is a "test tdm" command that can be run, but it may interrupt call service on the associated port network.

I have an technician hired for Thursday night after hours to work on this. I'll let you know what they find.
THANKS all for your input! Rhonda

Pull the board out. My guess is a possible short on the back plain. Can you run a 'disp er' from 9/5 to 10/4? That will help determine what is wrong.
Once the board is out. 'test alarms long cl'

I've checked the errors for the last two days and the error just disappeared. I called Avaya back and they cannot find it. It's been there for a month and now it's gone, hmmmmmm. Ever see this before? If it was a bent pin it wouldn't go away would it?
Thanks liquidvw! I'll try that if it comes back.
