Our Partner Mail R3 system may be nearing the end of its life. It seems about once per week it stops taking calls; in other words, the automated attendant does not pick up incoming calls, and nobody can get to voicemail.

To get past this, I hit the hard power switch on the Mail system and then turn it back on. So far, after rebooting it works (for another week or so.)

Questions: Is there a better way to reboot the system? For example, is there a soft reset available through a com port? If so, would this work through HyperTerminal, and what are the baud settings, etc? Is there any other way to do a soft reset? Is it harmful to just hit the hard power switch?

Is this a common symptom of a dying voice mail system?

Thanks in advance for your help and please feel free to put forth any suggestions.

No, that's the only way and it shouldn't cause other problems. It sounds like at least the HDD is on it's way out. Probably would be best to replace the whole messaging system, those Mail R3s are very old and nothing that you get is going to be any newer. Cleaner looking maybe but that's about it.

What Partner system do you have and how big is it?

Kevin check all mailboxes for saved mesages. All voice mail systems have limitations. One of my customers ( a used car lot ) fired two employees and removed there telephones and stored them in a closet, no light for notifcation. Never changed AA so customers were still leaving mesages 8 months worth and all storage was used up. Hope this helps.
