Greetings; The fax machine that I have is assigned to my extension number 25 and its line 4 in the system. How can I have the system use a different specified line???? When I select my line 4 (18d phone) it says in the display, "Automatic Line Selection". If I start over (and select the extension 25) press ** then try and press a different line, it doesnt do anything.... (nothing in the display) If I just press ** it actually default out to intercom.
What I need to do is basically switch which line the fax machine dials out from by default (my boss only has long distance on one line)
I know I am missing something... I just need a push in the right general direction.
Thanx Tom

You have to program Auto Line Select for Extension 25 to pick Line 4.
From Ext. 10 or 11: Feature 00 Left Intercom Twice Right Intercom Once Dial 25 (for Ext. 25) Dial ** (to begin Auto Line Select programming) Press Line 4 (so it will pick that line first) Dial ** again (to end Auto Line Select programming) Feature 00

Question first is do you have other lines assigned to extension 25?

Right now it is set to line 4, and it does work ok. The problem is that the long distance only is enabled on line 1. If I try to select a different line, it doesnt take it. It just defaults it to intercom.
So if I go into ** and then select (press) the line 1 button. It doesnt do anything. If I select ** and press line 4 (the one that is currently assigned) it displays "Automatic Line Selection" in the display) Any ideas on how to change it???
I did follow the directions to the letter but it just doesnt take it. (exactly how Touch Tone Tommy mentions it.) When you select the line, are entering in a number 01,02,03,04 etc or are you simply pressing the line button you want to use?
Hal, I do not have any other lines assigned to extension 25. Would that be the problem? I dont have the first line associated with it?

Yes you need to add line 1 to that extension. But after you add it, you'll want to turn off the ringing on that line, on that extension. Otherwise the fax will try to answer line 1 also.

another thing you can do is ... If the extension is set to go to Intercom first, you can dial 804 which will make that ext grab the fax line (Line 4). Then when you want to fax Long Distance, dial 801. That will make the extension grab Line 1

Yes it would. If you only have line 4 assigned to that extension you can't expect it to auto select any other line. That's why ** is not working for you.
To assign line 1 to extension 25:
From Ext. 10 or 11: Feature 00 Left Intercom Twice #301 Dial 25 (for Ext. 25) Dial 01 (for line 1) Note that the new line button L01 has been added to the right of the existing L04.
Now do auto line select:
Right Intercom Once Dial 25 (for Ext. 25) Dial ** (to begin Auto Line Select programming) Press the second or right line button (so it will pick that line first) Dial ** again (to end Auto Line Select programming)
Now press that second line button until it says "NO RING".
Feature 00 or just lift the handset to exit programming.

Ok, What I'll do is give Hal's idea a shot. if it doesnt work, I can I'll give blklabs a shot. Interesting way of doing it, just dont know if the staff who use the fax will like having to dial extra numbers to fax out. (I wouldnt mind, but they will!!!)
Guys I really appreciate all the help you have given me thus far.

Huh? I just told you how to add line 1 to that extension, have the fax default to that line when it dials out and not allow line 1 to ring.
That's the way it's done. If it doesn't work it's because you didn't follow the instructions.

Oh I am pretty good with following instructions... I've been married now for a number of years. I just meant that blklabs idea while a different path would satisfy the need to get long distance faxes sent out. If may not be the recommended way (nor even what others would be considered the right way for that matter), but it'll get the ladies who use the fax happy for now.
