Hi. Customer has an
ACS r6.0 with slim 5 slot carrier, 1 308EC and VS rel 5.0. When they use the conference feature to connect two outside CO lines together they get an annoying "Squeal" or feedback of some sort. The CLEC has sent VZ. out and they say nothing is wrong and everything checks out at the DeMarc. I changed out the processor and expansion 308 and still have the same problem. Any ideas?

Are the two outside calls that are connected both on cellphones?
That's the only time I have encountered this.

Actually as soon as the lines are conferenced, they squeal, Even before you make any calls. (I grab a line and break dial tone, then press conf and grab the second line and press conf again and the squeal is there. I thought it did it across the cards but it does it within the cards, ie. conf lines 1 and 2, it squeals. conf lines 2 and 4(on the second card)it still squeals. I think it is a provider problem, but have to be sure. Thanks for anything you find.

Get a cheap two line phone and do this from the demarc, most have a conf. feature on them. Sounds to me like you're on some type of local carrier that's too hot.

Yep, I am bringing a basic 4 line phone to a vendor meet this week. I just thought someone might have seen this before.

Actually I think that is a known problem but I don't remember much more than that. I also remember that there were early 308's that had a conference problem with the first two extension ports but I don't think this is it. Tommy can probably fill us in.

Hal is correct, the early 308's had a problem with conf squeal, there was a line module you had to put at the line ports to stop,,, can't remember what they where called or if you can even get them anymore. The R6 should be fine I would suspect that your 308 is of the older ones around release 3-4 or so

I'd check loop current - might have to add resistors in series or check Sandman for loop current attenuators.

The previous vendor put an in line attenuator with dip switch settings for loss on line 4, but they still had the problem, although to a lessor degree. I also swapped out the processor with another r6 module and still had the problem. I haven't thought the slim 5 slot carrier coulnd be the problem could it?

The old 308s with the conference problem were replaced by Avaya. There wasn't any fix. I don't think that is the problem here if you swapped the 308.

Try swapping the polarity on one then both CO lines.
