You'll need a controller to tie the doorphones, electric doorstrikes and PBX together. My preference for this is the Viking C-1000a .

Of all the compatible doorphones made for that controller, my choice is the E-30 . It looks sharp and is vandel resistant. Use the E-30-EWP (Enhanced Weather Protection) version if environmental exposure is a consideration. If cost is a factor, you could use the E-10 doorphone instead. It has a black wrinkle finish and can also be ordered with Enhanced Weather Protection.

The doorphone's specsheet indicates a 4x4x2 wall opening for installation. Though that is a standard size for an electrical junction box, DO NOT install one as the screw holes won't line up. Instead, provide an opening large enough to accomodate the rough-in box that comes with the doorphone. Use an appropriate adhesive or concrete anchor to secure the back of the box against brick or concrete.

You may also consider the AVAYA two port relay. This is helpful for button lite status if the door was open or closed you would see a red or green light on the phone. The Viking would provide a Dtmf signal contact and would be less expensive. But once the customer sees the light status that the Partner relay in programing provides they will love it.

If the customer already had a door strike installed from the previous system you would only need to locate the relay and use the partner door phone adapter and maybe change the door speakers.

The partner door phone relay can be used on two ports of the partner system assigned to group 41 and 42 in group call/latch. The unit provides a unlock feature by only depressing the auto dial or BLF button with a light.

It reminds me of the time that a customer needed a page port for his old Merlin. He had no feature mod to do this. On the wall Sitting right next to the old 410 was an
abandoned Exeutone EZ-1. He got his paging and asked how did you make it work?

Check the specsheet for the C-1000A...I've made it pretty easy for you to do so. This controller DOES accomodate two separate doorphones and two separate doorstrikes.

The doorphones have a programmable dialer built into them, which holds up to five different numbers. The programmed number could be a Calling Group, individual extension, outside phone number or all of the above (multiple entries will call in order). Dialing is initiated when the doorphone button is pushed.

For a Partner system, I would have each doorphone call arrive on a spare line trunk (the controller can be strapped to interface an analog trunk or extension). Label each line accordingly so that the answering station knows which doorphone is calling.

The controller "listens" for DTMF tones during active doorphone calls. When the correct pre-programmed code is heard (using your Partner phone keypad) the controller will unlatch the associated doorstrike. Yes! You can assign a unique touchtone code for each doorstrike.

Why seize a co line to do this?

The Viking still integrates with most anything and always did. The avaya adapter is still looking for the latched contact voltage from the viking or whatever. The point is made to light an idiot light on the phone or whatever.

Two lights programed. One shows the back door open and one shows the front door closed.

It's kind of silly to me to tie up two trunk ports when the Partner has a two doorphone capability built in. I prefer to use the Valcom/Page Pac doorphone which is the original Partner doorphone that used to be made by Harris. Those WILL mount to a 2 gang electrical box. Yes, the screws will line up. There is no real way to recess mount a Viking unit and even surface mounted on the supplied box the overhanging plate is not something you would want on the front of a house.

You will need the Partner Contact Closure Adjunct that provides relays for the operation of the two door strikes. Once programmed operation is simple. There are two distinctive rings for the two doorphones. Door open buttons can be programmed on any phone even if it is not a doorphone alert extension.
