I'd like to review a quote I got for a new Parter ACS phone system:

1 x 5 slot carrier
1 x ACS Processor 7.0 Module
4 x 308 Module
1 x 4 Port Partner Messaging 7.0 Module

My surprise was the sales person said this would all fit into a 5 slot carrier and the voice mail system was simply a PCMCIA card that plugs into the Processor Module (Not a seporate module taking a whole slot on the carrier.) He said the capacity was up to 200 mailboxes and 100 hours of recording time. Is this possible all on a PCMCIA card plugged into the Processor Module?

The sales person also said that the 012 Module (0 lines and 12 extensions) is no longer available. Is it?

The sales person said that my Partner II 5 slot carrier might be useable for the Partner ACS. Is it?

The partner Messaging is a Module that fits in the carrier. Your carrier does not have the slots to handle the config he proposed. The processor goes in the "P" slot and that only leaves you with 4 slots.

The 012 module is still available, but the salesman you talked to probably doesn't have any to sell to you because they are sometimes tough to find, hence "not available". The older Partner II carrier should work fine with the new ACS processor. Avaya really only changed the plastic housing, not the backplane board on the newer carriers.

The Partner II primary carrier will work for the ACS as a primary carrier, though most would reccomend against it for the low replacement carrier cost ($100).

You need the Messaging 7.0 module if you have more than 6-8 people with vmail or use automated attendant. You also need the processor, that leaves 3 slots available.

If you fill all three with 308's, you get a 14 line by 33 station (14x33) configuration. You can trash 3 lines and put in an 012 for a 11x37 configuration. Just depends on what you need for your situation; additional module changes can equip it as you need it.

But it definitely sounds like the sales person and/or the company the quote came from is not familiar enough with the Partner to do your install justice. Nearly any tech can maintain a system installed properly, your money is best spent wisely on the installation.

This is what happens when you attempt to buy gray market goods on the internet and want to install it yourself. You're in trouble before you even begin.

I suggest that you contact an Avaya Business Partner and save yourself the money you think you are going to save and a headache to boot.

Based on your suggestions, I think a 11x37 configuration would suite us best with a voice mail module.

I'll let the sales guy know that he needs to do more research before selling to us and I'll look elsewhere.

I might siuggest looking at the IP Office, as it will be something which you can install, and not be already at full capacity on day one.

I would almost never advise anyone to install any new system that is installed at, or near full capcity when installed. If you do not have a full slot free in a Partner ACS when implementing, it is time to consider the IPO for its larger capacity.

An Avaya Business Partner, or at least a reputable one won't sell you a system without them installing it also. From what you are also saying that guy is no more of a Business Partner than my grandmother.
