Wondering if anyone is experiencing this issue w/R6, seems to have happened since temps started to rise. We are seeing a rash of R6's going Kaput w/clicking on ports..bad clicking almost a buzz.Sometimes it seems like if you pull them for a few mins they will straighten up for awhile but then back it comes after a few minutes of running..just wondered if anyone else has seen this problem.

This is not a usual problem and since you say that there are a "rash" of these, what do they have in common? How hot? How old are these R6s? Bought from the same source? Refurb?

Hal.....
Not all that hot..We have just noticed since temps around here in MN have reached the high 80's. All R6's are from BP's so not a big deal to get replaced but just curious as to what might be the problem as we have had 3 of them in the past 4 weeks with the same problem. I would guess the approx age of them to be around 2-3 years each.

Are these units stand alones or in a 5 slot, I still to this day leave the covers off them as they run way way cooler, even with the new 5 slot I still leave them off, but as far as your problems I haven't and any.

I service a lot of partner here in SW fl thats in warehouses and other places where 80 is a cool day and I don't see massive failure even on partner and partner 11

I do leave the covers off when practical but there are a lot that are covered and humming along

We leave covers off also, and for about the past year,we have been putting a clip on fan that we buy at our local Target store for around $6 above the 5-slot blowing down on them due to heat problems..especially if they are running a VS which seems to generate more heat. In answer to your ? Russ they have all been in 5-slot carriers...so far none have been stand alones...

Blowing down is against the natural convection that the mods are designed for. Air is supposed to enter the bottom, rise through the module and exit out the top. That's why the hottest part of each module (the power supply) is at the top just below the ventilation holes. Cool air is drawn over the board by the hot power supply at the top. It may be that you are your own worst enemy with those fans. You are blowing the heat from the power supply down through the modules which heats the board and its components.

I think we may have found the common denominator here.

Hal is correct, never put a fan at the top and have it blow down, I don't use fans I just leave the covers off and have had no problems over the many years I have been putting them in.

I would be concerned about liablity installing a cheopo fan that certainly isn't designed or built for constant use in a application like this no matter where its mounted

Good thought on the air flow! Not all the cabs have fans...only one's in closets that have no air at all.which as you know seems to be most locations. Partner is probably the worst design of all for heat loss ever made as evidenced by color of most modules. But I will have a buy stop and move fans to bottom at a couple locations and see if that helps on the air flow that does make sense to me..Still doesn't account for clicking though..even if you cool one down it doesn't stop it...one location is only doing it on 10/11 everything else is fine...
