Have to do a board renumber. 7 of my boards are -U (upgradeable). 3-408MLX, 2-008MLX, 2-100DCD, and 1-016MLX. I've been told I can blow out the firmware on the upgradeables if I do a board renumber. Anyone ever experience this? Anyway to avoid it? Right now my plan is to have replacements on hand in the event that the boards go south.

Board renumber will not affect the firmware on the boards.

Board Renumber tells the Processor to go out and do an inventory of the INSTALLED MODULES.
It really will not affect your firmware.
Only an UPGRADE PCMCIA Flash Card can do that.
You stated; "I've been told I can blow out the firmware on the upgradeables".
OK, who told you that?

Your little birdie (with a very intelligent face) had some wrong info. As stated board renumber does nothing with the firmware.

As, Spud said,,, Board renumber is only when you change a mod is based on the config.
You can hot swap on cards. You need to tell the unit what you have. Board renumbering is good but there is more to this.
