hello guys i have a customer with a partner acs system 5x9. i think its a r7. he had a couple dead phones and when i got there they had 5 dead phone ports. im goin to get an exp card to give him more ports. question is why did so many go dead. they make driveshafts. there did appear to be metalic debree on the cabinet, and they do use arc welders. im wondering if high current draw could make trouble or if metal bits could cause minor shorts in the system. any ideas. also would it hurt if he used some canned air and blew out the card. thanks dave

That is a known problem with an earlier release of the R7. If they bought the system from an Avaya BP there should be a 3 year warranty. If not, good luck.

If it is out of warranty, you may want to pop open the plastic clamshell on the processor and clean it out. It could certainly have shorted out if those metal shavings got inside. You should put some sort of cabinet or hang a plastic bag over the system. Leave the bag open at the bottom so air can flow in, but not the metal shavings.
These systems need good air flow, so a cabinet with a small fan and filter would be the preferred method of keeping it clean.
This advice may have come too late for this ACS, though.

It's not metal shavings, don't waste your time. It's a manufacturing defect, possibly because of ROHS compliance.

There was a patch of R.7's that had this issue.
But as stated above, contact the Business Partner you bought it from and they can run the S/N of that processor to see if that is the case here.

We have had 2 go out in the last month where all station ports have gone dead. One was bad out of the box and one was an older system. I just called Avaya and they said that they have not had any reports of bad systems with these problems. I have been workng on partners for 14 years and never seen anything like this.
