We have a Partner ACS v7 system with Partner 34D phones.

For training purposes, we would like to have two phones at the receptionist's desk so that a trainee could listen to the conversation of the trainer (and vice versa.)

Is there a function for doing this? If so, could you tell me what it is called and provide a short description of how to use it?

Remove Auto Privacy from the Receptionist's extension, then anyone can barge in on her calls.

another solution would be to add a silent observing unit

then you could set up a phone or phones that could silently monitor whats being said without the party on the other end being aware

I have this set up on a partner system for a customer and we have 12 stations in a sales group that 2 supervisor can dial in and monitor


you could also record all calls from ext 10 then listen to them later


either of the above would require the purchase of additional equipment and the cost of installation

You could also try a cheap handset training jack (handset T adapter) for around $10. part # KIT1I from Sandman.com or Suttle Part Number 464.This simply allows you to add a 2nd handset to most phones. You might want to disable the transmitter on the 2nd handset though.

Just plug a cheapo SL phone into the auxiliary jack on the bottom of the 34D. You could even use a bridging adapter at the wall jack- same thing. No additional wiring needed.

If they want to they can use a Partner "One Touch" headset base with a corded headset connected the same way.

Thank you. You guys have posted some thoughtful and helpful responses. I asked this question back in September, but never got back to it. The feature isn’t really wanted anymore, but if it comes up again I’ll know what to do. Thanks again for your help.
