I have been assigned a project to extend an existing Avaya telephone system located a major traffic control facility to a remote control room several miles away from the master by means of a fiberoptic ethernet network. The remote location will be provided with an Avaya S8300 media server G350 gateway slave and will require providing connections to a large number of VoIP telephones. The telephones will be located along a two mile stretch of highway in groups of 5 to 10 phones per location. These groups will be located at approximate 500 foot intervals. It is proposed to install a LAN using an ethernet switch with sufficient PoE ports to handle up to 10 phones at each location. It is requested to use Cisco switchs for both the LAN between the phones and the Avaya slave and between the slave and the master.
I would like to utilize the Gai-Tronics Titan VoIP-(SIP) telephone for this purpose.
My questions are:
Will the Gai-Tronics phonse work with this system an what would be the preferred Cisco switches to utilize?
Any help would be appreciated
Anderson

Hi, Anderson and welcome. You might be better off by posting your question in the Avaya/Lucent category. Our resident Avaya gurus may not make the general category one of their regular stops. Also, I'm sure that they'll need to know which particular Avaya system is serving as the host for your project, along with the release. Best wishes for a speedy solution to your challenge.

Don't you think that due to the scope of this project, the customer and the system that you just might want to get Avaya involved with this?

I've never used those phones. But any SIP phones should work assuming that you have an SES server, the proper software release, and the licenses which you didn't state. You'll also need to think about survivability when the WAN fails.
