Hello, I am an electrical contractor and a good customer of mine had a Merlin phone system installed in their home. A few weeks ago I got a call that the Merlin system was making a loud high pitched noise and the warning light was on. They called me because the company who installed the system is long gone, and it had "wires" running to it, so they figured I must know "something" about it. They had been having this problem for awhile and they were just power cycling the system and it would work for a couple days and then they would get the warning light again. I attempted to have a company that claimed to work on the Merlin systems come out, but they didn't show up at the scheduled time. 2 days later I got a call that the system was out completely. I checked it out and sure enough cycling the power module did nothing, no lights, nothing. I popped the power module out and took the covers off and saw that there are several components on the circuit board that are burned up. From what I can see there are 3 resistors that have heated up and are coming apart, and there is one diode that has burned up completely. The fuse (4 amp) on the main front power board is blown. And now finally, my question. Does anyone have, or know where I could get a schematic diagram for a Merlin 601A power module? My customer won't be needing the system because I had a brand new Avaya system installed for them. They were going to throw the Merlin system in the garbage, I told them I would take it, so now I have it and would like to attempt to repair the power module, and then perhaps sell the system, or install it in my home. I see the modules advertised for anywhere from $125 to $202 on the Internet, but if I can fix this one by replacing a handful of components I would be happier If I can't find a schematic diagram, perhaps someone has access to one of these units and could tell me the numbers/values of the components that are burned up. I could post pictures of the circuit board showing the location of the different components. Suggestions? Ideas? Assistance? Thanks in advance! -- Tom Green aka AutoGlock

I doubt you're going to have much luck finding a power supply, although they are easy to replace. Refurb supply might have one, but I think it's a long shot.
Which Merlin? Someone may have one collecting dust they would part with fairly reasonably.

Hate to tell you but you are going to find that replacing those components will only result in them burning up once again before your eyes as soon as you apply power. Their failure is a symptom of serious problems that is typical with switching power supplies.

I have done what you are asking to do in the past the results were never very good. 20 - 30 year old equipment is ready for the junk pile when it has power problems.

There is a 1030 on ebay @under $100 . Caution is : 1-you may be buying someone elses garbage with no warranty. 2-1030,s dont ship well with cards and power in the chassis. 3-This falls into the catagory of; If you stick a shock prod up a dead horses butt,Its still not going to get up and run Good luck You could find a merlin plus 4x10 goes to 8x20 and a lot easier to deal with assuming you have the phones .
