I used the fax managent on 1 other site and if the fax runs out ofpaper , is unplugged dosen't receive...

I think you are mistaken. No fax machine has a means to communicate those conditions- it's designed to be connected to a POTS line.

And really #601 should have been removed a long time ago from the programming. Just use any extension for a fax and set it up as appropriate as per lines, ringing and DSS buttons. Assign it to the CNG group in the messaging system if desired.

If you identify the extension as a Fax machine in #601, and add an Auto Intercom button for that extension, the Red LED will flutter if the machine fails to answer calls (which can mean that it is out of paper (from the thermal roll paper days, now it should be able to receive into memory) or just turned off or unplugged.)

The flutter clears the next time it successfully sends or receives.

So it is not the fax machine itself that it communicating with the Partner, it is the Partner making some assumptions about the Fax machine's operation.

And the "Message Waiting" clicking is just coincidence - clear it manually, and double check that there is not a mailbox associated with the fax extension

Yup after 4 rings (with no answer) the auto Int button starts to flicker.... going off hook on that extension clears it.
