We have a Partner Plus 4.1 processor, (2) 206E R4.1 modules, and a Partner Plus VS R4.0 voice mail module.

Several weeks ago we started noticing that we would suddenly have lines on hold with nobody there or, worse yet, pick up a holding line to find it was actually placing an outgoing call. Often, all 4 lines would be on hold and nobody there. At the same time this started, some phones had really bad static during a call and it was hard to hear. Even when on an incoming call, the system would put the call on hold. Very frustrating.

A couple of weeks ago, we came in and all of the extensions attached to our second 206E were dead so I tested a bit and found that the first 206E was working fine. Since we don't use all of our available extensions, I plugged all of the necessary extensions into the first 206E. Everything was MUCH better until today.

Now the system is putting lines on hold again and we have odd random ringing in one of the phones. So far there is no static.

I was thinking of buying a couple of refurbished 206E units but am worried that maybe the processor could be causing the problem.

I realize that we should be calling a professional repairman but we are having trouble collecting some rather large receivables so we have to keep it pasted together until we can afford to upgrade.

Thanks so much for any advice.
Marti

Once the finances are in place, I would upgrade to a Partner ACS. The R8 is the current (and final) release.

A good selection of ACS hardware will still be available from Avaya for another 2 months or so. Business Partners should have stock available beyond the final cutoff date.

Avaya will provide support for up to 3 years and then, after that, there will be tons of hardware available in the pipelines and on the secondary market for years & years to come.

Because Partner systems hold about a 25% or more share of the small business market and customers will hold on to them for years?

seriously look, the fast and most fiscally responsible way to solve your issue is to buy yourself an ACS 3.0, 6.0, 7.0, 8.0. Priced from lowest to highest of course.

I don't know how many phone lines or phones you have but if you could NOT use the 206 mod, you would be doing yourself a favor as I have seen them take a processor out if that pws pops upstream in a carrier.

I would never buy an acs 1.0, known problems and they don't seem to last.

Now as to the other idea of moving to an IP 500 running partner mode, yeah you can do it, but of course it's going to cost more. It just all depends if you feel like spending the money.

The IP 500 V2 allows for a combo card that will run 4x6+2 and you can have two of those. By the time you are done it will cost you just under a grand or so and you really need a tech set this up for you, so you have to add in the install cost too.... but you CAN keep all of your phones, which is a bonus I guess.

If you are tight on funds, go for a used ACS module and try not to use your 206 if you can, even if you have to get a used 308ec. The 206's are just old. You can call me if you have any pressing questions.
