I'm trying to setup 2 separate AA's. One for firm-1 and another for firm-2. I want to use selector codes in the script that I will record that will map to real extensions. For example, "Press 1 for Sales, Press 2 for Accounting...". When the caller presses 1, they should get transferred to ext 11, if they press 2, they should get transferred to extension 10. But my Service Provider, Atlas Communications tech named Clyde, says that if I use selector codes 1 or 2, that I won't be able to have the AA transfer calls to Ext's: 11-19 for selector code 1; and similarly, it won't be able to transfer calls for selector code-2 to Ext's: 20 thru 29. Is this true? And if it is true, is there a work-around? Lastly, which manual would be the best for me to use to learn about & program selector codes for Partner Mail VS, R5.0?

!- there is a manual for the r5 mail ,maybe its free from Avaya site ,if not there are links above for manuals
2- it would be cleaner to follow Clydes advice. by staying away from 1-2-3 I dont have a book in front of me but i think theres a pause that can be put in b4 it dials 1-2-3 waiting for a second digit.
Im sure others will post their thoughts.

KENB. Thanks for the quick reply.
But you lost me on that last sentence: "i think theres a pause that can be put in b4 it dials 1-2-3 waiting for a second digit." How would that help? Would I put in the script that the callers should dial the pause character first, followed by the selector code? Or do I need to program in the pause character somehow? BTW: thanks for the tip on the manuals. I was able to download free pdf manuals from the Avaya website.

Here's a related question for you experts. First let me say that I really appreciate your help and your fast responses. Here's the Q: I understand that Selector Codes 1 & 2 are out. But since our switch has no actual extensions beyond about 26, is it ok to use selector code 3 at least? And if so, is there any special programming I need to do to avoid more problems?

3-8 are a go, as a rule most all techs will have you start with a selector code that there have no stations in that range.
One thing to remember is to assign the correct lines to AA1 and AA2 for your different clients on that VM and switch.By default all lines are set to AA1.

If you will never grow past Ext. 29, it's OK to use Selector Code 3 and up.
But why not use Selector Code 9 and DOWN?

No reason in the world you couldn't start with 9 and go down as Tommy posted.
