We've got a client with a 3 cabinet Merlin Legend/Magix which sporadically gets "hung up" after an All Page. What I mean is that the Speakers on all MLX and Magix phones remain on even after the All Page has stopped. The system has a combination of MLX and Magix 4406 sets. MLX phones can return to service if the users press their Speaker buttons. Magix phones cannot return to service without doing a complete system reset, so basically the client needs to do a complete reset several times a week.
Anyone seen this type of problem?
Thanks, Mike.

Two questions:

1. Do you have it programmed so that paging is done both through the sets AS WELL AS loudspeaker paging?

2. Are there any ETR cards in the system--whether supporting Partner sets or not?

Thanks and yes on both questions.
There are no Partner sets on the ETR, just 1 Transtalk.

Sorry for the delayed response. I saw this problem on a system a couple of years ago and need to find my notes about how I solved it. First thing to try is to isolate LS paging from Group Page and try both separately. Post back on the behavior change, if any.

Are you using a UPAM between the amp and switch?

Thanks for getting back to me.
I'm sorry but I don't know what LS paging means.
The Trunk port is tied directly to a Valcom single zone paging adapter and self-amplified Valcom speakers/horns located in several buildings.
I was onsite Saturday when I could test without driving client crazy. Client initiates pages manually thru the telephone sets and also thru a Viking Digital Announcer which plays 2 different messages and is triggered by a time clock system. I could not duplicate problem using a phone but did duplicate several times using the Viking DA. When problem occurs I hear reorder tone while monitoring the Analog station on the Viking, the All Page will go thru but then the phones lock up. All analog stations, including the Viking, are still operational. Legend MLX phones are operational once users press their Speaker buutons to disconnect from the All Page. Magix phones will not disconnect and the All Page is busy till a system reset.
I busied out the ETR card, no change.
Last thing I did was ground the Viking DA to the system and am waiting to see if that helps.
I didn't think I needed a UPAM because I am connected to the Valcom Trunk port.
Does this sound like maybe a "slow" TTR? The Viking does not wait for dial tone before dialing the All Page code, it just comes off hook, waits 2 seconds then dials.
Thanks again guys, Mike.

just some information to consider:

a lot of technicians will not identify a loudspeaker paging port as such in system programming. if you do not do this, the trunk port is subject to "transfer" and "conference" just like any other analog trunk port. have you ever had a customer complain that an otherwise normal phone conversation winds up on a business's loudspeaker system?

an analog station port will not send a disconnect
signal as a central office trunk will.

there are some loud speaker interfaces that will
provide an automatic disconnect after a programmed elapsed time.

Just wanted to follow up. We were finally able to remove the LS Trunk from the AllPage group and the problem went away, several weeks now with no lock ups. Dagwood hit the nail on the head. Since we are using a Valcom single zone paging controller do you think we still need to add a UPAM?
Thanks again.
