I understand that Avaya doesn't support more than 10 phones with square COT line appearances. Doesn't anyone else understand this? I've got a law firm that wants 8 lines on 21 of their 1416D phones. If this is the case then the IPO has a big weakness.

I haven't heard that. I have a customer with 12 1408 sets with 5 lines on each phone.

You have to convince the customer to use the system as it was designed, with PBX functionality. Put 3 call buttons on each set, along with 2 or 3 park buttons. The lines are just part of a pool, and it doesn't matter which one you are on (or if it does, you address that through incoming and outgoing routes). They use HOLD to come back to the call at their own phone, and PARK for someone else to retrieve at another phone.
Since we print a custom user guide for each customer, I started putting a quote in bold red at the top: "Dial 9 to get out, Use PARK instead of HOLD". Once they understand these two simple concepts, they find it easy to use the phones.

Thank you Tommy! I'll do the same with this customers training material. When they push the park button, I assume they get a number back off the display to tell the party that needs to pickup the parked call. That party dials the number and has the call? I'm I on the right path here?

Just put a Park 1, Park 2, Park 3 button on each phone......programmed the same on each one. Then when a user at phone A puts a call on Park 1....the user at phone B simply hits Park 1 on their phone to retrieve the call.

We have did the same as you in the past with out any problems, but the IPO is designed to be in PBX mode. We also print custom user guides.

It was 10 phones can share lines. More than that and Avaya will not support those sites. Embedded mail question. How does the the receptionist transfer caller direct to a VMBox. I know it's got to be a short code. Any suggestions?

In any appearances, cover, line or BLF, the maximum is 10 for the IP Office. Yes, I dont agree with it, but there is the Partner Version that can go to 100 sets in key mode, which is able to get past that IPO limitation.
I agree with TTT though, if you can convince the customer that using more call appearances and park buttons is the way to go...it is easier.

Yeah, I've got it setup now with SWCA buttons. That's what Nortel called the Park button system on all the phones. Park a call and anyone with those buttons can retrieve it. Works good and the customer will like it.
