I started working for a friend who bought a hotel. He has a Mitel SX-200 Phone system with the Mitel Superconsole 1000.

Every day around 2 -4am we get several calls from extention 205. ( Auto Attendant)

We also have an outside phone, when you pick it up before you dial it rings the main phone. Then it keeps ringing it for hours after that. You try to call extention 207(outside) on the superconsole 1000 it says invalid extension. I think there is a programming issue here. Also we only have 1 phone line plugged in at the moment and are ordering 4 total, 2 ingoing 2 outgoing can some one provide me with some information to fix this.

Sounds like several issues. Maybe no cpc disconnect signaling on the trunk and you have a manual line set up (ringdown)@ 207.

jeremy, it sounds like your friend bought an out-of-operation motel, right?
First, is the time right in the system?
Next, it sounds as if someone may be trying to use the AA to get an outside line. OR, someone, or something, is dialing the wrong number and getting the hotel, then hanging up and trying again. I say 'something' because 'it' tries several times. Most folks would figure that they needed to get the correct number before calling again. OR someone didn't get the word that the place changed hands and they are trying to call their nite-clerk friend.
Next, it sounds as if 207 is arranged as a ring-down line to call the console whenever it is picked up. This would be typical of a lobby phone, a pool phone, an elevator phone, or an after-hours front door phone. Why it KEEPS ringing is .........?
Last, you need to order 4 lines in a hunt group through the LEC (phone company, dial tone provider, whatever you want to call it) business office. Then you can have 4 lines in AND out.

NOW for the important part. The LEC technician is NOT going to connect the phone lines to your system. They are not trained to do it, and don't know how. Don't ask them to, unless you like being embarrassed, made mad, whatever. You REALLY need a certified Mitel tech on-site for connecting the lines and programming as required. While they are there, they can address your other problems. Note that the Mitel system is password protected, so you would be best served by calling whoever the previous owner used. Don't be surprised if previous owner left an unpaid bill that they will want cleared up before they will work on the system or give you the (probably changed) password.

All that said, welcome to the forum, and please come back. Note that we generally limit information to that which an average user would have if they were the original owner and had all the user guides.

Thank you so much for the information, yes he did purchase a hotel that went under and was closed for a while. He was stuck with everything, right now we have 1 line hooked up to the mitel system. So you think we need 8 lines total? Or do you think 4 should do good for now untill business picks up?

Again, thank you all for the information!

The AA rings every morning basically, the issue is our hotel are empty so I have no clue why that happens. Also I think you are right, as soon as they pick up the outside line the AA dials the front desk then you press 0 on the outside line and it rings to the front desk. But once that phone is hung up the front desk keeps ringing but you hear dead silence.

8 lines total? No, actually the thumbnail number of lines/rooms has nosedived with the wide availability of cellular phone service. Unless you are going to provide residential service for llllooonnnggg term customers, 4 lines would generally be entirely adequate for 100 rooms. What I was saying is the lines are bothway. Just like a home phone line, you can make calls outbound when any line is available, as well as receive inbound calls. 4 lines would allow 4 calls concurrently. A mix of inbound and outbound, for a TOTAL of 4 concurrent calls.

And the AA is probably no the source of your problem. A 'ringdown' line is an extension that is automatically connected to the front desk (or some other extension or outside line) when it is picked up. This is a function of the Mitel PBX programming. You and your friend/boss REALLY need a Mitel tech on-site to explain the operation of the phone system.

4 lines is what i will get then. thank you for that information. The issue is when i call the outside line from the front desk phone (207) it says invalid extention . But when i use the out side phone to dial the front desk , it rings before i dial ( which you explained is the ring back) and press 0 and it works. When i hang up outside phone it keeps ringing on the front desk.

is there any way i can activate extention (207) so I can have use of that phone?

Okay, it sounds like there may be a restriction on phone 207.

From the console, try "Function" "guestroom" 2-0-7 "restrict O/G" (toggle it until it says "LD" and NOT "int."

What exactly is the phone 203? Is the auto-attendant physically cross-connected into that port, or when you call 203, does it forward to the Autoattendant?

What might be happening is that ext. 203 has a wake-up call ("timed reminder") set, and the phone system or the voicemail (one or both) is calling to try to make the wake-up call.

Also, what are you dialing to get the outside line? Are you dialing a 9 first?

I think Lightninghorse is right: You're not going to be able to decypher this mess without some professional help. Get the local Mitel dealer in there and pay him for a couple of hours of his time to straighten you out and explain the system to you. It's an investment that you probably won't regret.

Chances are that he's been there before, and might even know the rhyme and reason in some of this mess.
