I have a 28i phone system with a vanguard voicemail. When I installed it (it was a used system that had previously been installed with the same voicemail, just on the other coast of the nation), I moved the voicemail button on the phones. But now, the light does not come on when they have a message. It did before I moved the button. Does anyone have any idea why this would be?
What could go wrong?

You can't have 2 appearances of the same feature on any one phone.

I don't. I moved the voicemail key from one key to another. Now the light doesn't work, but the button does. Do I have to enter a new lamp on string in VM maintenance?
Again, the light does not light up when a new VM is left. It did work up until the time I moved the button to a different location to make room for station buttons. The voicemail light works just fine, feature 1059 + ext is how the button was programmed at each phone. It calls voicemail just fine, but the button does not light up when a new message is left.

Did you do this in the software OR did you do it on the phone. I have seen where you have to manually program this on the phone keypad.

Yeah, I did it manually at each for with feature 1059 + ext#. The button works, it calls voice mail, but the light doesn't work. I was in the VM programming on the laptop and I noticed that there were no strings entered to turn lamp on or lamp off. But, I don't understand why the buttons would light up before I moved them. Does the voicemail know when buttons are moved and do you then have to reprogram the lamp on and lamp off strings? I have no idea what those strings are for this phone system. Thanks for the replies, customer is going on 2+ weeks without VM message lights lighting up. I called tech support and they told me: "I don't know". ![[Linked Image from sundance-communications.com]](https://www.sundance-communications.com/forum/smile.gif)

Do not turn any thing on in the light message feild. It does not need any thing. It sound like you have a port issue Your vmail is probably a 4 port and you only have 2 ports working. ---Unless it is working on all other extensions--- The vmail always uses the last port to light message waitings. Verify you can call all the vmail ports. Can you manually light the lamp by going off hook on a vmail port with your butt set and dialing #1_ _ _ extension number --does the mailbox have the right extension number in the mailbox programming in the voicemail.

I've seen a similar problem that developed when the installer set all the analog ports on the system to automatically select an outgoing line. Of course it interfered with the VM dialing the string to light the lamps.

Hey,
There can only be a few explanations with this issue.......
1. The button is not programmed correctly.... 1059 + ext #....(I am sure you know this but te ext number is the number of the phone not the V.M. ext ports.
2. The ports in the V.M. that are set to Lamp Update are malfunctioning. Go in and do a port reset......Get into CU then PO and check your ports and make sure 2 of the 4 are set to lamp update......Leave a voicemail and watch what happens in Diagnostics.......
3. Somehow someway your V.M. ext's have a message waiting left on them and they will never update if thi is the case....Take out your butt set and clip on to the ports that you have alloted for V.M. and see if you have beeping.....if you do....then you need to cancel Message waiting....
These are the only 3 issues I have ever ran acrossed when it came to lamping....
Feel free to email me with any questions.
Later Tony
