Good afternoon,

We had a power fluctuation over the weekend, end result was our telephone system was reset to factory settings. After a couple hours of playing, I've managed to get everything back, except our ATA boxes. We have two fax machines connected to two seperate ATA's. In the previous system, we were not required to dial 9 to get an outside line prior to making the phone call--it would simply make the call. I cannot for the life of me get this to work anymore.

Currently, the fax extensions are assigned only line 5, and have the primary line set to line 5 as well. I'm not sure how it was set up previously, though. I've tried putting Line 5 into PoolB, and assigning the ATA's primary line to PoolB, but it made no difference--I still had to dial 9 to get an outside line.

I noticed in the manual for the ATA that this is apparantly how it's supposed to work--except it wasn't that way two days ago.

Any ideas?

TIA,
Jonathan

Change programming on the ATA sta to be a hotline and the type to external. Put your "9" in the digit string.

It's a little more complicated than that, but there is a way to do it:

You need to set the ATA DN to hotline.

1. Under Services, built a Route and point it to a pool group. Then build a destination code (ex. 8) and point it to that route.

2. Under terminals & sets/line access, change PRIME LINE to intercom for the ATA DN.

3. Under terminals&sets/capabilities change HOTLINE to external, then Hotline digits to dial out change to the destination code you just created. Then change, Use Line __ to Use Routing Table.

4. Give the station in question line pool access to the pool group in step 1.

Carl,
Thats alot of programming and yes it will get the job done. However if you have just regular loop /ground start lines you can just set the ata to hotline and program your pool access code. Or if you have a specific line to use say "Line 5" the it is much easier to prime the set to line 5,program as an external hotline. Use prime line and in the digt sequence program "Feat*78 (pause). This will result in the ata grabbing line 5 directly with having to dial any pool code or building a route and dest codes ect.. Works great!
