If you are looking to have them certified, you will need to send them to a Global Knowledge training course.

Purchasing one sounds like the way to go.

Having one to play with is fine. But I doubt you'll be able to simulate the networking and MCDN features you could in the class room.

You need training to understand all the featutes... Bcm 400 and BCM 50 are cool machines.. The wiring on the BCM 50 is kind of weird....Laptop sure does make entering a bunch of names for VM easy...

just my self i have always been self taught,i'm not certified on bcm or can't afford to pay for certification,i have installed tones of bcm on networks with unified messaging, i also install the avaya ip office systems. i find working in a lab with these systems and this forum and people i know in the trade works better than sitting in a room in front of nortel dude but thats just me. if you can afford to send techs on a c`ertification course by all means it will benefit them.but i'm sure with practice and a couple of installs they will get to the same point installing the system for your client.

I went to the course A1teletronics puts on in Florida. Not certified by Nortel, but Melissa does a great job of condensing it down to a very basic and easy to understand level. We are normally of the self taught realm as well, but the class was worth it, as there are some funky things that are difficult to pick up without some help. Like the resources and how to make sure you provision them acurately. We didn't feel right having the customer be our guinea pig. Work smarter, not harder.

The class at A1 also goes over a lot more of what you will see in the field and not just a lab situation. As far as certification you can go and learn the system anywhere and go to the Global Knowledge site and take the Assessment test for around $100.00 to get certified.
