I had a BCM 50 installed on Monday. I would like to use auto-attendant with a full company directory. However, my phone installer said that to make this happen, I will need a voice mail box for each person in the company so it adds them to the directory. We decided just to do 8 boxes for now and purchase the others in the spring when money is flowing again.

Is there any way I can add these users to the company directory so I can use the auto-attendant feature?

I have the element manager installed on my laptop and am also willing to do the config via feature codes.. whatever I have to do to get it to work.

Thanks in advance!

Are you saying that you are expected to pay for mailboxes on a system that you purchased? That doesn't sound right. I'd be bringing the original sales rep back and sitting them in front of your desk for an answer to that question.

Please tell me that you weren't shopping based solely upon the system's price. If so, there's not going to be a lot that any of us can do to add items that weren't purchased. Sorry for the bad news.

I may not have explained my situation well in the first post, EV. I'll try to do a better job this time.

We paid for 8 mailboxes on the initial install. We are going to purchase a license for 16 additional boxes in the spring. I have the 8 existing boxes set up already and it added those users names in the directory. I am trying to figure out how to add the other 14 users to the company directory even though they don't have mailboxes. I would like them to show in the directory, incoming callers to key their extension # and the call go to the destination. Since these users do not have voicemail, the call will ring for a preset # of rings, probably 4, and then go to the operator if the user is not at their desk.

What you want is done in either the AA or CCR. I would suggest setting up groups within either of the two above such as:

For Sales, please press 1, for shipping, please 2, etc (if in CCR)

In the AA it would be by extension number.

With the company directory, the caller must type the name in. With this way, you can list them.

Thanks for the tips MooreTel. I was not able to mess around with Callpilot much today. I was really pressed for time. I will be able to get into it again on Thursday.

welcome
Dave has it right.

The internal directory (pressing #) is dial by name based on the name entered in each mailbox.

With CCR you can route to extensions without mailboxes. You can use single digit dialing as suggested by Dave, but you can also use full ext numbers (for Jim dial 222).

Ed, the BCM comes with an 8 port voice mail with no mailboxes enabled. you must purchase licences to activate them.

Alright, great! I knew there had to be a way. The installer is Nortel certified, but this is the first BCM that he has installed. We didn't have much time to fool with the Callpilot because of time it took to punch down all of the new extensions and program the system. I will work on it Friday. Thanks for pointing me to the CCR!

I'm the type of person that likes to do it myself and learn as I go. The office is back up and running. Now it's just the nit picky stuff that I need to take care of. They came from a 15 year old Nortel system with no voice mail, AA, etc. No nothing.. just ring, pickup, transfer, and page. It's nice to be able to log in using a laptop. I'm an IT guy by trade, but love to learn all I can about anything related to technology.
