All MICS will support 2 digit DN, however you lose funtionality, expandabilty and it's not recommended.

You will probably have to do a system start up. And bring it up with 2 digit starting DN.

Your right I have 7.0 and here and it does require 3 digit. It can be done on a compact but I don't think so on a modular.

What software release do you have? This may have changed in later versions. 2 digit DNs in a MICS are pretty rare so this may have have been changed somewhere along the line and you may the first to notice it.
