I am having a problem with an older RPE cabinet at one of our remote locations (est. 3 - 5 miles from 61C). The RPE is linked to the PBX via a T1 connection(the T1 is using a different carrier at each end). It appears that there is a dialing problem at this location. Users will key in the numbers and they are not recognized by the system. we also are receiving BUG4216 messages on about every TN on the RPE. We have replace cards (QPC63, QPC64, QPC66, QPC99)at both the RPE site and the PBX location. Still receiving the BUG messages and dialing problem. We are running rlse. 23 on the 61C. Our Maintenance company is at a loss right now. Can anyone shed some light on this problem for me? It's become very frustrating...

"BUG4216 Excess invalid input messages from digital sets. Every input message is counted. When the total count reaches a limit, this bug message will be printed and the count is reset to zero."
tried isolating the offender by pulling the digital station cards in the RPE? (wondering if a bad card is overloading the RPE) can analog telephones call across the span?

LD 62 and run the procedure for LOCL diagnostics. Report any RPD or RPL codes. I have seen Peripheral buffers in the remote RPE cause this issue. Has this site been working for a awhile or has therebeen any changes to the T1 transports?

Actually, we've been receiving these BUG4216 messages since it was installed in September 08. I'm wondering if it could be a T1 provisioning issue? We are using two different carriers with two different pieces of Termination hardware. I think I may have run the LD 62 diagnostics early on but will do it again. I don't believe there were any errors then.

Ah ha. Check your circuits...these RPEs will only work with AMI spec circuits. B8ZS will not. I've had them die after the LEC updated a CO to Fujitsu muxs that would not support AMI. Also check the wiring...these are also odd in the fact that one T1 is your transmits and the other is you receives.

But, wouldn't that not allow the link to work period? We are able to communicate between the PBX & the RPE. It's just that the key presses are not recognized sometimes and the BUG messages? I thought if one end was AMI and the other was B8ZS, there wouldn't be a valid path? Maybe I'm wrong?

B8ZS will allow LCD updates and ringing but no voice. I have seen AMI circuits that were flakey because a repeater in a manhole was optioned B8ZS. The only way to eliminate the circuit is physically pick up the remote cabinet and set it beside the main. Crossing your X and Y terminations on site should eliminate circuit problem. I know it's a pain but I have had to do it as it was the only to point definitively back to the circuit provider. You have one of the hardest troubles to shoot. I'd still do the LD 62 procedures first. Also run LD 45 TEST and see if you have BSD errors.

It has been a tough one to shoot. I think I'll do the testing you suggested, and then get with both providers to see if they will send me the configurations for both ends of this circuit. It would have to be a last resort to pull the RPE. I hope it doesn't come to that but you never know. I'll let you know what I find.
