Again, I think I would get with Aleen TS. If they cant help you get it to work they should take it back. Do you have 130 and 131 set to disable? 824 feature manual, page 159-161, DTMF status codes.

Just wanted to post a follow-up for everyone here.
It turns out that the guy who sold it gave up on trying to get the Aleen to work with the KX-TA824 and is now stressing over getting a Panasonic KX-TVS50 to work in its place.
Seems like that hole just got a little deeper.
Oh well, I just tried to help.

I don't understand why anyone would use 3rd party VM when TVA50- is same or less in price.

why would you put yourself through the anguish when the tva or tvs is made for this panasonic?
