Small claims court works great for them. I always explain to them that it is my next step and if they do not pay now, the judge has always ordered them to pay the court cost also. Most will pay right away.

Hummm if I didn't know any better, I'd swear I know you or you know me. I used to do the filing and collecting for another interconnect local to Dallas. It does work and they will pay. I saw one guy try to talk his way out of it with the judge only to have the judge tell him to be quiet and pay all amounts due and all court cost. Another guy was so nervous, you could see his B*** squirm. ha!

We've used a couple ways to handle it:

1) Once they're delinquent, overdue balance must be paid before the tech will start working. Money Order or bank check. No company check. (They stop payment on it) If you don't have the payment, the tech will leave immediately and travel charges will be added to the delinquent balance.

2) If it's worth it, you may be able to file a mechanic's lien on the building. Check with your attorney. It may be a lot easier than collections. The real estate cannot be sold without paying the bill. In our state, there must be permanent additions to the building, like a full system installation. We find that the customer usually calls screaming as soon as they get the letter from the county clerk. They pay the bill immediately. All the forms are available at office supply stores.
