Went to a new customer's site today. They have a td1232 with a 4-port tvs200. They have AA answer.

They're saying that sometimes people call and complain that the call just rang and rang. They say this has happened when no one is on the phone (ruling out no ports avaliable). I looked at programming, telco hunt and port hunting and all checked out good.

It's a 9-10 year old voice mail so I told them that the harddrive may be failing but I've never seen a voice mail go bad for a short amount of time then come back up. Has anyone seen that?

94, Yes, if it's overheating.
Did you call each of the ports?
If it's set up properly they should be 165,166,167,and 168.
Have you checked the port wiring?

I didn't call each port by extension number (should've) but I did call the voice mail from four different phones one after the other leaving each phone off hook confirming that all four ports work.

Also the phone closet had good AC.

Maybe the problem is not with the hardware, but with the service provider. Is the service pots lines, pri, integrated access? Are there single co's to determine all lines/channels are working? Is the hunt sequence correct? Is the problem on local or long distance? If the customer could get some "call examples" (date, time, line, called from?) you could compare them with smdr or with the provider to determine that the call actually "hit" the pbx/vmail. The hardware certainly could be the problem, but at this point it sounds more like a service issue to me. Also the port issue could be someone accessing vmail internally, and not an outside call.

I checked hunting sequence and it's good. These lines are AT&T pots lines. They had telco come out before me and they said everything on their end was good (of course). They swear that this has happened with no one on the phone or accessing voice mail, I explained to them the ports thing.

I told them to try to note when this is happening and who's on the phone etc... It's also hard for them to know when this is happening since some one would have to call them to let them know that the call didn't go through.

I told them that when it happens to check the light on the tvs and to listen for the hard drive.

They're interested in a new tva voice mail but don't want to sell them something that won't fix the problem.

Depending on how intermittent the symptoms are, you could temporarily change programming to dil 1:n to some phones to see if you can duplicate the symptoms, eliminating the vmail as the problem completely. No matter, this will be a challenge to troubleshoot. In support of the tva, there are so many improved features, that the upgrade would be worthwhile, and we all know that a hard drive won't last forever.
It still sounds like a provider issue.
Good Luck.

I'm hoping it's not the provider, an intermittent problem like this from them could be hell to fix.

i would think that ictelco is right either a service provider fault or most likly all 4 ports were in use when a call arrived if you have 4 spare buttons on the main handset you could program one for each port these would light each time the port is in use this way they could see how often all ports are busy.

Went there yesterday and experienced the problem myself. Line one was in use and i called in, the call just rang and rang instead of hitting line 2 and going to A.A. Put my buttset on the block and it did ring which told me it's not the voice mail or the carrier but the TD1232 line port 2 or possibly ring voltage?

Called again and voice mail did answer, again and it didn't answer so it's intermittent. Changed that line to line port 9 on the 1232 and re-programmed and it worked every time since.

To go along with the ports being in use, how is your transfer sequence setup? If you set the sequence to be blind does it make any change? I've noticed on some 1232's that the time it takes to disconnect from one call and then pickup the next can be an issue. Other than that, I'd say you should definately setup the dss keys to show appearance of the ports.

EDIT - sorry didn't see your own resolution there.
