We connected a cordless phone at port 08/station 18. We now find that we can dial out OK via dial-9, but we can't simply pick up to answer incoming calls.

Prog 32 (Automatic Preference) is not supposed to apply to standard phones, but I think Steve Mull once said that the ringing line preference does apply (off-hook preference is ignored). At any rate, I set Prog 32 thus:
00*07 1-02
08*19 1-01

What am I missing?

I can double-check it later today, but my notes show that for Program 81 we have:
00*19 # (LED's 01-08 steady ON)

E.g. all lines ring all ports.

By the way, I can add what may be obvious: not only can we not answer a call, but the phone doesn't ring either (despite the all-CO's-ring-to-all-ports setting). I also swapped in a corded standard phone and got the same result as with the cordless.

Can you call ext.18 internally from another station?

Can you take the cordless home (or somwhere you have a known working analog line) and test it there? I know you said you swapped it with a corded, but if the corded phone's ringer didn't work either.

Also, as phonemeister said... can you dial intercom 18 and have it ring?

Fundamentals - fundamentals - fundamentals.

A double-check of Program 81 showed that it was not set up the way my notes said it was. Once that was covered - BOOM! - the cordless became an instant performer.

Thanks, guys!
