Faxes (or any modems) don't play nice with IP trunks. Plain and simple. I recommend keeping one copper line in the building for fax, credit card and alarm systems.
The MIPU will support SIP trunks, but I have not had the pleasure of hooking one up yet.

I have installed faxing over IP on a CIX670 a few times. It is a crap shoot. Hit or miss most of the time.
Network settings and depending on your WAN connectivity, settings on that also need to be almost perfect for faxing to work.
Better to do what Voyager recommended..

I have installed a SIP trunk with faxes going to an ASTU port via G.711 (many props to p2ii !). It has 100% success rate to date and has been in service for a few weeks.
Just remember - Toshiba does not support T.38 as of yet.
I agree with Voyager, as I too recommend using POTS for the faxes still. e-Faxing is an option as well - myfax.com, efax.com, etc.
