I applied and got a call but with anything there are exceptions. The position is as a self contractor. I would have to buy or lease a van that is white in color. He said the van could be rented to me for $1,000 per month. To me, that is ridiculously to high I currently use my SUV but color was important.
The job entails doing POST DSL work which means I would be at the CO doing wirewrap? or at the home hooking up the NID or on the pole hooking up the connection. Since my experience comes from the customer Commercial side of the work this would be new for me but training is provided. Promises of making minimum of $1,800 and up per week is what the company has told me for techs with some experience and techs with more experience make up to 3 grand a week. I have to fill out the numerous forms including a background security check since this would be for accessing the CO.
What do you people think of this? Ever since BCTel sold out to telus the service has declined and Shaw Cable has taken away a bunch of there customers. Shaw also has contractors but from what I have seen those contractors drive vans and trucks of all kinds.

Why not buy a used white van and see how it goes? At least they'll be training you.

Sounds like a cable contract installer to me. Betcha they pay by the job, like $15 for a full install? Gotta have your own liability insurance and, at least here in the states, they take workmans comp and disability out of your pay.
Who supplies the materials?
If I were you I would make that a bucket van because humping that ladder all day is a killer on your back. Or learn to use hooks.

I think that it sounds like a great opportunity. I had applied during the strike a few years ago and got a call. See if you can run with your own van for a while. I know a few of the Shaw UBE's contractors and they can make a ton of money if you want the work. Good luck.
